Wednesday's Child Philadelphia Success Story

Testimonial:

In January 2015 on Wednesday's Child we featured a shy, 11 year old boy named John. John loved baseball and was searching for his forever family.

Around the same time that the segment was shot, Jim and Jose were finalizing the adoption of their son Brandon. They talked to their social worker about the possibility of expanding their family, and she suggested they watch that week’s Wednesday’s Child segment – when John would be airing. Jim later said that he knew the minute they saw the segment that John was meant to be part of the family.

Soon Jim and Jose were officially matched with John and visitations began. Jim and Jose now share many great stories about the process of becoming parents to 2 boys. Jim speaks of their determination to become parents to children living in the foster care system. No matter the length of time needed to complete the process, they felt called to this role. Jose tells of the the profound amount of joy his sons bring to the family.

From the son's point of view, John says that he loves belonging to the family, but that it was weird at first. He did say that as soon as he settled in, he knew this was his home.

If you think you could offer the love and support to a child in the foster care system or are just interested in learning more about the process, please contact us at the National Adoption Center.
