The Adoption Process Road Map
Our Adoption Roadmap covers the entire adoption process
from general information regarding the types of adoption available to
what the child goes through to what to do after placement. Below you can
see the overall outline of the courses; click on a title to learn more
about the topic. Currently only our Foster Family to Forever Family course
is available.

This course will engage learners in a conversation with NAC, orient them to the program, inspire them, and set them up to succeed.
2. Adoption and You
What is Adoption?
This course will arm learners with a complete understanding of the ABCs of adoption, so they will feel educated and powerful embarking upon the process.
Adoption Challenges
This course covers the hard truths about the adoption process and what it takes to be successful in the process given the common roadblocks, misconceptions, and required waiting time, so learners will not be surprised and can prepare in advance to stay in the game where others would drop out of the process.
Foster Family to Forever Family
This course helps learners understand how foster care adoptions differ from other types, so they might consider foster care adoption if they haven’t done so already, and be successful pursuing it.

Stages of Adoption
This course covers the five stages of the adoption process, so learners
will know what to expect, what is involved, and what is expected of
them as prospective adoptive parents each step of the way.

Through a Child's Eyes
Your Family
This course explores what “family” looks like and can look like for learners
seeking to adopt, and provides ideas for learners on how to prepare their
own extended family to include an adopted child successfully.
Your Child
This course helps learners put themselves in their prospective child’s
shoes, and understand what all “comes with” an adopted child —existing
family, values, expectations, concerns, history, etc—so they can prepare
to be great parents.
Adopted Child Development
This course walks learners through developmental issues related to raising adopted children of any age and maturity.
How is This Going to Work?
This course provides concrete guidance on parenting an adopted child and how learners’ day-to-day routines might work as they balance the time they spend with their child at home vs. the time their child spends at school and elsewhere.

We Are Family
What's Ahead for Our Family?
This course will help learners understand some of the unique challenges of raising an adopted child— from dealing with past trauma and abuse to grief and loss over their past friends, family, and living situation—so they can be proactive and effective in meeting their child’s needs.
What's Ahead for Our Child?
This course will address the challenges adopted children often face in
adjusting to their new school, new homes, and their on-going connections
with their birth parents and any siblings.
How Will We Manage?
This course will help learners confront the behavioral and communication issues that often stress adopted families. While these issues are important to all families, this course will focus on challenges that are unique to adopted families.

Staying Together
Moving Forward
This course will educate learners about the various types of post-adoption support which is available. Families will be directed to the range of resources available to them.
