What Services Does the Center Provide?

    Public Awareness:

The Center conducts an extensive public awareness program to encourage families to adopt. Working closely with the media, the Center maintains regular waiting child features. Print media includes "Monday's Child" in The Philadelphia Inquirer and "Tuesday's Child" in The Philadelphia Tribune. Features on waiting children also appear in regional community newspapers and parenting magazines.

KYW Newsradio, covering the Greater Philadelphia area, airs a weekly feature with Larry Kane interviewing children waiting to find permanent loving families. The interviews air at various times on Wednesdays and can be viewed on KYW's website.

Wednesday's Child Philadelphia, sponsored by the Freddie Mac Foundation, airs on NBC10 Wednesdays between 5 and 6 pm and repeats Saturdays between 9 and 9:30 am. Each week a waiting child appears with Vai Sikahema host and popular Philadelphia sportcaster. The interviews can be seen on the station's website. Information and Referral:

Adoption Coordinators respond to calls, emails, and letters by mail or email from prospective adoptive parents. Families receive packets of adoption information. Families in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who are interested in adopting children from foster care receive a preliminary application form and are referred to a local adoption agency for a homestudy (the process by which a family is approved to adopt).

    Child-Focused Recruitment:

The Center orchestrates two Wendy's Wonderful Kids programs; one serves children in Southern New Jersey and the other children in Delaware. The Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiters actively engage the children in the process of finding permanent families. They meet regularly with each child to plan recruitment, read the child's file updates to find potential families, and prepare the child for adoption.
